October 2015

BØRNS - Holy Ghost

Meat MD:  This album is pretty fucking solid.

Made in Heights - Forgiveness

Adrien Brody:  Another discover weekly find I keep going back to.  Self-described: "spectrum of subdued electronic pop ... sensual, crystal-clear vocals ... minimal, up-tempo cut ... ’80s toms and synth flourishes."

Rainbow Kitten Surprise - Cocaine Jesus

Jim the Doctor:  Cross between early kings of Leon and an angel.

Kurt Vile - Pretty Pimpin

Hollering:  If you like Kurt Vile, and that is no guarantee, you'll dig this song.

August / September 2015

Raury - Devil's Whisper

Pooh:  Absolutely worth checking out.  Really feeling that jersey too (trump was on the show that night).

Blake Mills - If I'm Unworthy

Kyle:  One of the most creative, if under-appreciated, young guitarists and producers out there today.

Sam Lachow - Action Figures (ft. Gifted Gab & Mario Sweet)

Meat MD:  Eat mushroom, get big, eat flower, spit hot fire.

Júníus Meyvant - Hailslide

Doctor Jim:  Junius got soul.

Pokey LaFarge - Something in the Water

Tatarsky:  Pokey belongs on the deck of a steamboat, and I belong right the fuck next to him.

July 2015

Jarryd James - Do You Remember

Meat MD:   This guy.  He's got two songs.  I like them both.  Keep on truckin Jarryd.

White Panda - Lean on to the Next One

Pooh:  Hey guys- this new white panda is a blazing fire of hot flames.

Panama - Jungle

Devo:  Panama's new one is a pretty nondescript slow burner that you will like if you like them and will not convert you if you don't.  Two years later they may even finally have an LP coming.

Young Fathers - Nest

Meat MD:  The fuck these guys are, somewhere between tune yards and the weird shit Cudi makes.  I'm enjoying the whole album.

May / June 2015

Shirt - Phantom (Redux)

Pooh Bear:  I don't know anything about this dude but this track was on the ending credits on Silicon Valley a few weeks ago and is flames.

Zeds Dead - Collapse 2.0

Hollering:  Not my typical fare but holy hell that slight hesitation at 1:13 makes me think edging is worth a try.

Major Lazer - Powerful (feat. Ellie Goulding & Tarrus Riley)

Meat MD:  Spotify has a new music tuesday feature which is pretty self explanatory and turned me on to an excellent major lazer collaboration.  And a shitty eminem song and super mediocre florence song.

Marian Hill - One Time

Tatarsky:  So sexy.

Beck - Dreams

Whiskey:  Perfect for when you need a little push to clear those final pesky thetans from your body.

Disclosure - Holding On ft. Gregory Porter

Adrien Brody:  Ready to walk out of work and two-step and sweat.

April 2015

M+A - Bouncy

Foggy Goggles:  I don't think they understand the business-bashing hipster irony in their name, but their upbeat, loungy sound nicely complements my endless spreadsheet modelling.

Seinabo Sey - Hard Time

Meat MD:   Our girl is all over the place but def knows how to get your foot stomping.

Jamie xx - Loud Places (feat Romy)

Adrien Brody:  "Jamie and Romy go together perfectly. They should totally form a band or something."

Vetiver - Stranger Still

Tatarsky:  This is smooth, and the rest of the album kinda sounds like blog-favorite Destroyer.

Fantastic Negrito - A New Beginning

Meat MD:  Fantastic indeed.

Sturgill Simpson - NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Timmy:  The entire city of Austin is on Sturgill's jock after his ACL Taping.  I wasn't there but after streaming the Tiny Desk concert, I get it.  Dude is legit.

Feb / March 2015

Will Butler - Anna

Kyle:  It was suggested last week that the 'visualizer' was the new lyric video. This, from arcade fire's will butler, seems to merge the two on a catchy, LCD-esque new single.

Matthew E. White - Rock and Roll is Cold (live)

FreyDon:  Can't stop listening to this guy's album.  He was on Letterman the other night, classic reaction from DL.

Tei Shi - Bassically

Devo:  Repete brought this up months ago and I should have paid more attention.  Really great.

Run the Jewels - Blockbuster Night Part 1 (live)

Joe Con:  1. I've never seen La Blogotheque feature a hip hop show, and this is legit.   2. White people are akward.

Throwback
Kavinsky ft. The Weeknd - Odd Look

Meat MD:  Kavinsky is that guy who did the opening to Drive.  He's got some real talent with the synthesizer and here adds a falsetto, bringing it to 2/4 necessary things in a song.  Saturday bangarang.

January 2015

Map of Africa - Bone

Ding: Sometimes poor tech design can work in our favor. If you search for Django Django on Spotify, you'll find a compilation called "Late Night Tales - Django Django", which has some pretty cool shit on it.

Belle and Sebastian - The Party Line

Tatarsky: Just to round out the caucasians / 2010 / dick shot selfie thread, new Belle and Sebastian.

Skylar Spence - Fiona Coyne

Ding: Buried deep inside the HangOut Fest lineup is a small NY producer going by Saint Pepsi aka Skylar Spence. Dude I know from the local Chicago booking scene (posh) used to say he thought this guy was the real deal. Fans of RAC, Penguin Prison, etc will enjoy.

The Avener, Phoebe Killdeer - Fade Out Lines

Meat, MD: Got drunk, woke up, listened to a playlist and this song had appeared. Marginally NSFW alert. Ginger alert. Hipster playing chess alert.

Kingfish - Hell and High Water

Mike Tyson: Young big body buck blues guitar shreddin fool from Mississippi. Kid is 15, but a lot of human.

DANCE BONUS
Public Service Broadcasting - Gagarin

Sunday, January 4, 2015

November / December 2014

Ryan Hemsworth - Snow in Newark ft. Dawn Golden

Mike Tyson:  I like this song. <<But, it also reminds me of when I'm trying to Bluetooth a song or playlist from spotify on iPhone to my car and then my goddamn iTunes simultaneously overlays whatever alphabetically first track is on my phone AT THE SAME DAMN TIME. Serious 1st world problemz. Fuck you A-Punk!>>

Hippie Sabotage - Your Soul

Hollering:  Besides having one of the better band names in recent memory, this track has a #sickbeat.

Bob Moses - I Ain't Gonna Be the First to Cry

Tatarsky:  Bob Moses are two guys from Brooklyn.  They like trip hop and I like trip hop.

Great Good Fine Ok - By My Side

Devo:  My indie pop senses believe these guys will blow up.  They've been remixing stuff by St. Lucia so if you like that you'll like this.  And if you think that is terrible and for teenagers that watch MTV, you still might like this stop being so closed minded.

Logic - Soul Food

Adrien Brody:  Bars on bars on bars.

Jamestown Revival - California (Cast Iron Soul)

Meat MD:   I once spent a month of my life only listening to country music stations and convincing myself that I liked it, just to see how it would go.
